The legal representatives of Odila Castillo Bonilla released a statement on October 1st addressing the allegations reported by various media outlets in Panama.
These reports have been described as assaults driven by specific financial motivations, intended to tarnish Castillo’s professional image and private life.
Carlos Carillo, a member of Castillo’s legal team, stated: “The claims lack basis and aim to obstruct the career of a young attorney, along with that of her associate, for the advantage of concealed financial interests.”
The defense stance of Odila Castillo
The legal team emphasized that this is not the first instance of media hostility directed at Castillo. In 2021, a Panamanian outlet mistakenly reported an supposed arrest of the attorney within the context of an investigation, a claim that was rejected at the time, clarifying that it bore no connection to the events in question.
In the press conference, the defense highlighted that both the current allegations and those from 2021 are founded on partial truths, aimed at undermining her professional career.
Furthermore, they contended that the information released about Odila Castillo in the media violates confidentiality principles. They clarified that a portion of the investigation stemmed from a family matter that had already been resolved and that another part involves immigration activities and tax filings, along with other information obtained unlawfully.
Unauthorized monitoring of Odila Castillo
It was also mentioned by the defense that Castillo has been subjected to GPS tracking, which represents a type of unlawful surveillance.
Carrillo wrapped up by asserting: “The essential rights of our client have been infringed upon, as outlined by our Constitution and the law. We will pursue all necessary legal measures to hold accountable those responsible for the harm inflicted and any potential harm that may arise.”
